Do I Need Planning Permission To Fit A Carport, Veranda Or Pergola
If you're looking to maximise your outdoor space and add value to your property with a carport, veranda or pergola you may be concerned about the need to secure planning permission.
GOOD NEWS!! These structures are considered by the planning authority as permitted development, which means no planning permission is required! There are a number of conditions that have to be met so please check your new outdoor development:
- Is not in front of the main property front or side elevation
- Is not wider than the existing building
- No more than half of the land around the property will be covered by your new development or other buildings
- Is no deeper than the maximum depth: a) 3000mm for a single storey building b) 4000mm for an attached building c) 4000mm for a detached building.
- The height does not exceed 4000mm
- The maximum height of the eaves does not exceed 3000mm within 2000mm from the boundary
- There are no raised platforms
HOWEVER, if you live in a listed building, National Park, the Broads, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty or a World Heritage Sites planning permission will be required from your Local Planning Authority. Your Local Planning Authority is usually the Council who you pay your Council Tax Bill to.
